Cheesy Sprinkles are a delicious substitute for parmesan cheese in any recipe or simply for sprinkling on top of spaghetti or salads. Store in a jar in the fridge for up to 6 months (if they last that long!). I have been making them for years. We love them so much I always make a double batch and put half in a zip top bag (labeled and dated) in the freezer to refill the jar in the fridge.
- 2 cups raw walnuts
- 1 cup nutritional yeast flakes
- 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
- Place all ingredients in a food processor and grind together until mixture is the texture of grated parmesan cheese (the kind in the green can).
Nutrition Facts: Nutritional yeast (often referred to as nooch) contains a type of fiber called beta-glucan. In two separate studies , beta glucan has been found to increase immunity and lower rates of upper respiratory infections in elite athletes, whose immune function tends to go down due to intense training. Nutritional yeast has also been found to improve overall health, lessen fatigue, tension and anger while increasing vigor!
In a 2012 study reported in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, the consumption of walnuts was found to reduce the risk of heart disease, our nation’s number one killer, by improving the function of the endothelium, the cells lining the arteries .
By enjoying Cheesy Sprinkles, rather than dairy-based parmesan, you can improve your overall health, including immune function and longevity, without sacrificing flavor!
